Rethink Your Water
This FlowMeter measures the amount of water that passes through your filter/softening system. Softening systems are rated to remove a specific number of grains of hardness. Based on the hardness of your water, i.e. the number of grains of hardness per gallon, and the number of grains of hardness your system is rated to remove, you can calculate the number of gallons of water your system will soften. Simply divide your systems capacity by the number of grains of hardness per gallon in your water and the results are how many gallons of water your system is capable of softening. Enter that number in the meter and it will count down in 1/10th of a gallon increments. Once it reaches zero the filter capacity is exhausted, the capacity is displayed as negative and flashes. In addition, a timer indicates the recommended replacement of the filter cartridge by causing the residual capacity to flash after a maximum of 12 months. This ensure the filter cartridge is being changed on time.
This Mavea FlowMeter is a vital part to have for anyone purchasing a plumbed in espresso machine. Buying expensive espresso equipment and not properly treating your water is foolish. The number one cause of espresso machine failure is lime scale build up caused by hard water. Even when a machine is under warranty, failure that is a direct result of scale build caused by hard water is NOT covered under warranty. It’s kind of like running your new car into a tree, not cover. Many people buy filtration/softening systems and either don’t pay any attention to them, or honestly have good intentions and have know idea when it is time to change them, so they guess. Ninety percent of the time they either change them too soon or way to late.
What is unique about this system is its ability to measure accurately such low flow rates. l have been looking for a system like this for twenty years and this is the first one I have found that works. I personally tested it running water just through the group of a GS3 and it would count down 1/10th of a gallon every time it dispensed 12 to 13 ounces of water.
